Library Wreaths Tutorial
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 30 – 60 minutes
Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas anymore! These wreaths can be used to welcome patrons, introduce new books and authors or highlight special events or celebrations at your library. The wreaths are easy to pull together so you can make a few or change them as often as you want to advertise different events or activities or highlight areas to attract patrons. For example you may want to make a large wreath for your children’s area and add on real golden books, teddy bears or other small stuffed animals to highlight your storytime programs. You could place a large wreath in you window to celebrate National Library Week or other special events. You could make a wreath to advertise your book group using the book cover, scene or phrases from the book. You could even make a wreath for your teen or computer areas using a large Styrofoam wreath high-tech pieces like computer cut outs, circuit boards, or old cell phones, add some lights and you’re done!
Wreaths are an easy and flexible way to change up the way you build your library displays. If you design a basic foundation on a large wreath, changing the decorations every month to highlight different celebrations or events. You can plan wreaths for your Summer Reading programming, Banned Books Week, Poetry Month, cultural history months, or even just a season or birthday.
Keep in mind, too that a few tweaks to the process and this project can work well for a group.
